The Dream Team was crowned Powderpuff Champion on Dec 11, in Wando’s annual Powderpuff game.

After a hard week of practicing, 14 teams took the field for Wando’s Annual Powderpuff Tournament — a game where the girls do the playing, while the boys coach.

Senior Cline Mamo, a coach of Issa Touchdown, was excited throughout the night, ultimately helping lead Issa Touchdown to second place.

Before the action took place, Mamo had a positive outlook on the night and his team.

“I think we have a lot of athleticism, but on top of that, we have a really disciplined group of girls,” he said. “They’re really going to execute.”

As the night went on, Mamo held up a positive attitude, winning against Great Danes and eventually competing against Roll Tribe.

[Going into semi-finals] “I feel really confident. The team we are playing [Roll Tribe], we have a lot of girls that we know personally, and I think it will bring a new level to the playing field that I’m excited about.”

The cold night was filled with excitement as the competition moved on.

The Dream Team, coached by junior Mason Bernard, won against The Cougars, Blitz Babes, and Attitude Fixers, moving them onto finals. Thrilled with the semi-final win, Bernard was glowing with pride.

“I just couldn’t be more proud of my team, we really push it. Inside practice, outside practice, we just have improved it,” he said.

Dream Team was ultimately crowned the Powderpuff Champions, after winning against Issa Touchdown.

At the end of the night, it is more than about winning – it is about the experience. This year, superlatives for name, face paint, teamwork, and sportsmanship were given to: Her-ricanes, Roll Tribe, Dirty Devils, and Low Expectations, respectively.

Freshmen Carlyn Garner and Katie Scott enjoyed their experience as first year Powderpuff players on the Dirty Devils.

“I just liked being with everyone, it was fun, meeting new people” Garner said.

When asked if they would do it again – “most definitely.”
