Isle of Palms hosted its yearly street festival on Dec. 2. This is the time to bring out the holiday spirit. Not only is this free to attend to, but this popular festival also has carnival rides, craft vendors, live music and even a visit from Santa Claus.

As the families walk the streets, kids can get their faces painted, while the adults can purchase locally made nick nacks and accessories.

Around 5:30, there was a 24-foot Christmas tree lighting on Front Beach, representing the beginning of Christmas.

Senior Charlie Wething attended this festival for the first time, and he really enjoyed his time.

“My favorite part was the live music by the cover band ‘Plain Jane.’ They were playing songs from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. It was really nice. There were people dancing. Everyone was enjoying it,” Wethington said. “It was chill and cool. All three of the vocalists were very impressive and the atmosphere it created was very nice.”

Wethington would recommend that people take this steival into consideration for next year because he had such a great time.

“I would go again to hear the band play more songs, and to try out some of the other restaurants in the area,” he said.

Not only was the music fantastic, the vendors who filled the streets also brought life to this event.

“The vendor that stood out to me the most, it was like a ‘mom and pop’ kind of thing. I’m assuming they were either welders or steel workers, and they made their own symbols made of metal. They had metal birds and dreamcatchers made of metal, and that was the most creative thing I saw at the festival,” Wethington said.

Overall, the Isle of Palms festival was very successful and will continue to be an event worth looking forward to in the future.
