The 2021 rushing champion has yet to find the same success he found with the colts earlier in his career. Most of this lack of production can be attributed to his numerous injuries in recent years and overall offensive troubles for Indianapolis. However Taylor has been good these past few weeks. And if not for an unforced celebration fumble at the goal line, he would be coming off a great week. The Titans are not a great rushing defense, so Taylor should find some success.
Matthew Stafford is rolling despite low numbers last week against the 49ers. The game was a sloppy and rainy surface for both teams and both offenses’ struggle was evident.. He still had a clean game with no turnovers as well while his opponent Brock Purdy threw an interception in a great defensive battle between division rivals in the NFC West. Stafford is an elite caliber QB in the league when he is on, and he is dangerous to face late in the season. His stats right now prove it as in his first seven weeks he had 9 touchdowns and 6 interceptions and since then he has 10 touchdowns and just 1 interception. Look for him and the Rams to power their way to a playoff spot in the chaotic NFC.
Alongside A.J. Brown, Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith had a solid game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 15. He had 11 receptions for 109 yards, picking up a touchdown along the way. Not only that, but starting quarterback Jalen Hurts has seemed to pick it up on the offensive side of the ball, throwing for 290 yards and a touchdown. If Hurts can continue to get the ball to his top receivers and help them both produce significantly, then we can look at the Eagles to be more consistent on offense, and DeVonta Smith can be one of the main receivers to rely on from Philadelphia.
Earlier this year the Commanders played the Eagles, Terry Mclaurin put up a whopping 2 points. That should be enough to have some hesitation towards the star receiver this week, however there could be more working against him enough to leave him on the bench. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels hasn’t been the same passer since his rib injury. His connection with Mclaurin has still been great, but it is cause for concern. The Commanders have started to run more with Daniels and running back Brian Robinson, topping 35 rushing attempts as a team this past week. Start McLaurin if you have to, but be prepared for a possible off week.
Xavier Worthy is a talented receiver, the issue right now is production in Kansas City. He is struggling with putting up good numbers. Despite a rushing touchdown Sunday against the Browns he has a banged up starting quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, I don’t see more production coming from Worthy with ] the possible change at quarterback next week. He will have a very difficult matchup with rookie corner Kamari Lassiter out of Georgia, Lassiter is tied 10th in interceptions with 3 and has 8 passes defended.
The Chiefs simply shouldn’t be underdogs in any scenario at this point. The defending Super Bowl champions and the number one seed deserves to open as favorites against anyone. The obvious reason for this strange line is obvious, this Sunday the best quarterback of this generation, Patrick Mahomes, went down with an ankle injury against the Browns. Without him, it makes sense to write off the Chiefs as an underdog. However, the NFL has seen Mahomes play through injury time and time again. Even an injured Mahomes is an above average quarterback. And call it what you want, the Chiefs just don’t lose. Their loss against the Bills in Buffalo earlier this year was their first since Christmas day last year. This Texans team is not as good as the Bills, and with Mahomes almost certain to play, the Chiefs should come out on top, as they always do. – Will, (4-3)
Despite last week’s implosion at home against the Rams, I don’t believe that San Francisco’s season is falling apart. The NFC West is known to be a mess just like the NFC South, but the coaching ability in the west is much better, so that means the teams in this division are all not out of it. I see a slump for Tua arising this week as he loses Jaylen Waddle and has to get the ball towards Tyreek Hill unless he gets a lot of production from veteran tight end Jonnu Smith or rookie receiver Malik Washington out of Virginia. The offensive looks right now from Head Coach Mike McDaniel don’t help their defense, who right now is great, but how long can their success last being on the field so often?. Defensive Coordinator Anthony Weaver needs help from this offense now and I just don’t see it happening. As for San Francisco, Purdy can turn it around with Kittle, Jennings and Pearsall but he has to be patient keep a similar style of football to Kyle Shanahan’s game plan because their connection is key to a big victory for keeping pace in a rugged NFC. – Wesley, (4-3)
This week I’ve decided to choose a game between two very talented teams. I’m going with the Washington Commanders over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Commanders are currently on a 2 game win streak, looking to push it to 3 this upcoming Sunday. Commander’s starting rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, has had a solid stretch of games this past month. Also, star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, has also been doing great in these past couple of games. Washington has to has to make sure that they implement their plays in practice and soak in as much knowledge as they can, in order to fend for themselves against an offensive threat like the Eagles, but personally, I believe that they have what it takes to shock many doubters this Sunday at 12 P.M. – Isaiah, (6-2)
