Fantasy Football – Week three

Start – 49ers Wide Receiver Jauan Jennings

The 49ers offense seemed to not miss a beat with backup quarterback Mac Jones. That seemed to be helped by the fact that Jennings was at full strength after suffering an injury early in week one. The Cardinals defense has been questionable against bad quarterbacks this year, so Jennings could be a solid flex option.

Start – Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott

Heading into week 3, Dallas’s offense looks very promising putting up great numbers offensively through the first two weeks of the season. QB Dak Prescott especially looks great posting a 96.7 passer rating against New York in week 2 and also throwing for 361 passing yards. Dak this week faces a Bears defense which feels deflated after 2 games with star corner Jaylon Johnson being out and two disaster performances vs the pass, Prescott is primed for a great day through the air as the Cowboys roll over the Bears.

Sit – Jaguars Wide Reciever Brian Thomas Jr.

Much like last week, this is more of a buyer beware than a straight up sit. Worrying signs of Thomas avoiding contact and not having a great connection quarterback Trevor Lawrence are populating throughout football talk. It may be too early to sell on what was a first to second round pick in most drafts, but things aren’t trending up for Thomas who faces an elite Texans secondary this week.

Sit – Falcons Wide Reciver Darnell Mooney

Although the Falcons on paper have a stronger team than the Panthers and many of the weapons Atlanta has will be utilized, there’s no way to undermine the pass defense which Panthers corner Jaycee Horn possesses. With Horn and Mooney matched up in the slot, I see Horn winning most of the matchup and forcing the ball through the air to the Falcons outside targets, wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts making Penix connect to the two targets he has struggled to get going in the first few weeks of the season.

Upset Alert – Rams over Eagles

When a defending super bowl champion just can’t seem to lose, it’s usually not a good idea to bet against them (see the 2024 Kansas City Chiefs) especially at home. However, there are reasons to do that here. The Rams brought the champs to the brink in the NFC Divisional round last year, with the Eagles squeezing out the win on their way to a Super Bowl crown. If that Eagles team was beatable for LA, this Eagles team should be even more so. Philadelphia has looked a bit fragile through two weeks, with their defense and passing game raising real concerns. And with their signature play possibly being watched more closely by referees after comments by broadcaster Tom Brady last week, alleging they committed a penalty every time, the eagles are on upset alert. Upset Alert – Patriots over Steelers

New England coming into this week looks very confident in starting quarterback Drake Maye after a great performance last week in Miami. He faces a tough defense in Pittsburgh but they are hurting in areas with an injury in the secondary to cornerback Joey Porter Jr. I think that this will be a high scoring game but expect this game to be the beginning of a big leap for Drake Maye and possible playoff road for the MIke Vrabel led Patriots. Upset Alert – Bears over Cowboys

Looking over the stretch of games for week 3 in the NFL, the Chicago Bears have a chance for redemption, as they face off against the currently uncoordinated Dallas Cowboys on their home field. Former number one overall pick, Caleb Williams, has the opportunity to prove that he can be a top quarterback in the league. As of recently, Williams has performed very well, despite his team’s record. Williams has thrown for over 400 yards with 3 touchdowns on the season, with a completion percentage of over 60%. Not only that, but Bear’s 2nd year receiver, Rome Odunze, is coming off a great game, where he had 2 touchdowns with 128 yards. If the potential of the Bears’ offense can transpire against a questionable team in the Cowboys, then Chicago has the opportunity to show that they are more than their first two losses.
