Jocelyn Wood.

When Jocelyn came to Wando as a freshman we dreamed of  her graduation day, as a sophomore she was put in my advisement class and countless times I thought of when I would personally hand her diploma after watching her walking on stage…unfortunately this day will never happen.

She has always walked the warrior way, her kind spirit and her compassion for others have always been something her teachers at Wando mentioned to me. Jocelyn dreamed of going to Clemson, an achievement that nowadays is harder and harder to get, but she worked tirelessly for her grades to go up specially those dreadful ACTs, we cried, we stressed together specially this past year but early this year she got her acceptance letter, to many that may just be another school, to her it is a dream come true…

Then the pandemic hit us….particularly us here at home, with me being diagnosed positive and sick and my husband too she was my only source of help to get me food, medication while dealing with this whole new concept of eLearning…and helping her 11 year old sister with her school work  since I wasnt allowed near my kids for over 2 weeks…

She was my warrior and my rock, thankfully she never got sick and tested negative.

Just like all our seniors, she never got her prom, she will not get her graduation ceremony  with proud mom/teacher by her side, she will miss on her senior gift to go to Portugal to finally see her grandparents (this is probably the hardest for her) but she still has the biggest smile on her face, she pushed on through and all she can think is how great life will be as a freshman at Clemson University.

I know I may be a bit biased because she is my daughter but I feel I needed to share with you a bit of her story, thank you for reading it. Hope you have a wonderful and safe weekend
