Big Bad Breakfast satisfied with its breakfast, though service was less than satisfactory due to a high volume of customers. Located in North Mount Pleasant, right next door to Bohemian Bull, Big Bad Breakfast serves up a combination of local favorites for breakfast and lunch.
As I walked inside, the breakfast restaurant looked to be a big hit with locals in the area as almost every table in the dining room was filled. Seeing that definitely boosted my thoughts going into the experience, because there are many breakfast places that taste the same all around town.
The decor was very pleasing, as it reflected the Charleston area as seen with an art mural of the iconic Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. It was a little creative with egg trays lining the ceiling, which are believed by me to emphasize a love for breakfast and for the atmosphere of Big Bad Breakfast being about customers just enjoying time together with breakfast. One of the other things I loved was the merchandise at the front of the store– a fun way to interact with locals and people visiting our town.
As for the food and drink, I ordered their coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice. Both were pretty standard, and then their chicken and waffle came out and it was very solid. The chicken was seasoned well and had great batter, however, the chicken unfortunately was not as juicy as you would expect fried chicken to be. The waffle was soft and pillowy and surprisingly held up well with honey and syrup on it. That was very pleasing considering how soggy waffles can get at times.
My friend, also a Wando student, senior Hewitt Durand, went with me and ordered a coffee and the breakfast plate, which consisted of two eggs, a choice of meat, toast or a biscuit, and one side. Durand got his eggs scrambled, chose the smoked sausage, and got wheat toast to go with the eggs and sausage. He was very pleased with the food.
As for service, the server was very professional and on top of things. Organization and hospitality are two things greatly appreciated when you go to restaurants and that is one of the main reasons I recommend this place.
Big Bad Breakfast overall is a great place to dine with its atmosphere of service and the food being very consistent. I would recommend this place because of the warm, cozy, and welcoming atmosphere. I wish they would stay open for longer hours to allow for more service to people in the morning. Also, I think that it is a little pricey for breakfast food, but knowing the area of Mount Pleasant, costs are going to be a little higher. With that being said, this should not be too much of a deterrent because the prices are not too bad for quality and the amount of food you receive.
