The notable sound of whooshing wind at 75 miles per hour comes from the soft gliding pitch of senior Allie Jepson. Just recently she became the softball captain, but her career in this sport began long before high school.
“I have been playing softball since third grade but I have been playing tee ball since 4 years old,” Jepson said.
Although she continues her playing in high school, her work ethic does not lessen. The team practices every weekday and sometimes on the weekend. Their games consist of long hours due to the multiple innings.
“We practice a lot on weekdays and sometimes on the weekends. It can get a little hectic along with school but I try to stay on top of everything,” Jepson said.
Jepson participates in multiple positions of the sport which displays her advanced skill set.
“I am a pitcher and I play middle infield or shortstop,” Jepson said.
Along with her playing, Jepson’s family is very supportive and their family environment encourages her to continue her softball career.
“My mom played softball when she was in high school and my brother has been playing baseball at Wando for three years,” Jepson said.
Her journey with sports may have began with softball, but Jepson played basketball leading up to high school. Her choice with softball stuck through because of her emotional attachment to it. Her athletic venture will not continue into college, but her academic one will be at Clemson, where she starts in the fall.
“I just fell in love with the sport and I am very competitive. There just is not another sport I could see myself playing,” Jepson said.
