The passion and love senior Eli Hornsby has for tennis all unfolded when his older cousin started playing tennis when he was younger. He can be found playing at Snee Farm tennis courts throughout the week, but when tennis season comes around in the spring he practice spend most of his time here.
“I was about 11 or 12 years old, I started taking lessons from her and I just kinda fell in love with it,” Hornsby said.
Tennis has made an impact on his life while practicing throughout the week, but he still has time to do things he enjoys outside of the sport.
“For the past four years, I practice probably four or five times a week. That took a lot of time out of my life, but it’s got me in good shape,” Hornsby said.
Hornsby finds that being alone on the court is what he enjoys most about playing tennis.
“Whether I win or lose, it’s on me and I don’t have anyone else to blame for it. I also enjoy winning, obviously,” Hornsby said. Hornsby had so many accomplishments in his tennis career, but there is one from his early high school career that stands out themost to him.
“I’d say freshman year in Kentucky, me and my friend won a match against our rivalto go to state. That was a lot of fun. Also a lotof people [were] watching,” Hornsby said.
Deciding if he wanted to continue his tennis career through college was a tough decision to make, but he knew he would have his biggest supporter in his corner.
“I decided that I wanted to be able to focus on other things in college and some big commitment in college. My dad is my biggest supporter because he’s always been the one who helped me to get better at tennis and pushed me to dedicate myself,” Hornsby said.
