Girl’s Basketball Comes to a Close

While Valentine’s day brought lots of love for some, it brought heartbreak for the girls’ varsity basketball team.

After a winning season and climbing to number two in the state, Coach Jeff Emory and the girls had high hopes for a deep playoff run.

The girls competed in their first playoff game against Dutch Fork High School on Feb 14.

The team was down 43-42 when junior Caroline Funk threw up a shot with .4 seconds left on the clock. The buzzer beater went in, and the team began celebrating what they thought was a first round playoff win. Unfortunately, the ref called the shot no good and left the court, indicating that Dutch Fork had won the game.

The team attempted to appeal the loss, but without luck.
The team ended with a 19-5 record for the year.
