Kids who grew up on Disney Channel have likely heard of the hit show Good Luck Charlie, but did you know that two of the leads said ‘goodbye’ to the life of Hollywood?
Bridget Mendler plays Teddy Duncan, her most notable role, in Good Luck Charlie. Mendler has also played Olivia White in the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth and Juliet Van Heusen in the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place.
However, Mendler is not just an actress; she is also a singer. Her most known tracks are the 2013 hit “Hurricane” and “Ready or Not” from her only album “Hello My Name Is…” She has released three Extended Plays (EPs) and one album during her career. The three EPs are 2013’s “Live in London” and “Hurricane Remixes.” Then in 2016, she released the EP “Nemesis”, marking the last time that she has released music.
Her real-life achievements could not be more different from Teddy’s.
Teddy Duncan is a high-achieving scholar with boy problems. She left for her first year at Yale in the series finale, but in reality, Mendler graduated from Harvard Law School in May of this year and has a Juris Doctor degree from there as well. Along with that, she has earned herself a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and she has been working on getting a PhD since 2020. Now, she is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and one of the co-founders of the company Northwood Space.
On the other hand, Mendler’s onscreen mom, Amy Duncan, played by Leigh-Allyn Baker, is on the other side of making the world a different place. She has been seen making waves at numerous locations ever since COVID-19 started. She went viral all over social media in 2021 for her speech about her stance on masks at a Williamson County Board of Education meeting in Franklin, Tennessee.
On September 24th of this year, she spoke at Baylor University about her beliefs in faith and politics.
“God has set me on a new path. It’s not one I ever would have anticipated,” Baker said. “It’s not one I ever would have volunteered for, but he uses all bad for good, and so I’m grateful for all the haters. I’m so grateful for the entire experience. My life is so much better because of it.”
She went on to talk about her experience of finding courage.
“Courage isn’t defined by a single moment. It’s a journey of developing your character in private to stand boldly in public,” Baker said. “True boldness is a journey of faith. If you let him, God will use every moment to strengthen, craft, shape, [and] mold…you for a great purpose. Courage is the act of being scared out of your ever-loving mind and completing the task at hand anyway.”
Since then, she has spoken at multiple college campuses, including West Virginia University, and she plans to travel to the University of Florida next. She frequently posts about politics on her social media profiles. In recent days before the presidential election, she could be found speaking about her stances on who she wanted to win and what she hoped the results would be.
However, Mendler and Baker have both said that Good Luck Charlie was one of the best times of their life.
“[Good Luck Charlie] was beautiful. It was just a bright spot in my life that I will always love and cherish,” Baker said.
