The Mount Pleasant mayor of the time, Linda Page, declared that in 2016 the December 13 would be named ‘Lucy Beckham Day’ in honor of the former Stratford teacher of the year, National Principal of the year, and Wando High School principal. Beckham left her mark on the local community, providing nationally acclaimed education quality from the biggest high school in the area. Beckham led Wando for nearly 17 years and left lasting positive effects on the school, from her hiring Chaz Coker, then a coach, now the principal of the school, to her unbreakable bond with the students she taught and the educators she led. December 13 is the day of her passing, but also a day to highlight the massive positive impact she had on the Wando and Mount Pleasant community.
