From student to teacher, senior Sadie Fink followed in her mother’s footsteps as she decided to teach a dance workout class — WERQ — at 02 Fitness Center.

“My mom teaches at the gym [O2 Fitness] as well, so I’ve been going to her classes since I was eight years old and I’ve always loved it and I got certified January of 2016 and started my own class,” Fink said.

WERQ combines aspects of Zumba along with hip hop, rock and pop music.

“It’s more dance than traditional aerobics, but it’s easy to follow and we preview moves in the warm up so that people can get used to it.” Fink said. “We use the same songs. We change out songs every week but one song will be in there for like three weeks so people can get used to it and started memorizing choreography.”

By teaching WERQ weekly at O2 Fitness at Johnnie Dodds, she gets to know the students in her classes.

“You meet some really interesting people. I have an age range – I have a 13 year old who comes religiously to a 75-year-old dude who comes every week, and he is like my number one fan. I love him, his name is Sid. He’s awesome, shout out,” Fink said.

“So you get to meet so many cool people and people are really interested in your life, so you get to know them on a personal level which is nice,” Fink continued.  “And also, I want to teach in college, so it will help me keep off the freshman 15, hopefully.”

Fink will be attending Wofford College in the fall.
