Junior finds creative outlet with photography

Photography started as just a random hobby junior Logan Vu picked up, but as time went on he started to really enjoy taking photos and it became a consuming part of who he is.

“It was just something that I randomly started, I found my camera and picked it up and I just started taking photos,” Vu said. “I love seeing the photos turned out well… and all the candids with other people.”

After a while, Vu adopted the nickname “Photo Boy” because of his frequent companion, his camera. Vu has become very fond of this nickname over time.

“I do like it a lot actually; it’s just like free advertising,” Vu said.

Vu takes mainly candid photos of friends and photos of cars, but he has recently started to enjoy a lot of portrait and landscape photography. He also hopes to get a little more serious and start taking this hobby into a profitable job.

“I’m starting to get more professional, getting jobs and stuff now,” Vu said.

Vu has the opportunity to transform his favorite hobby into a profitable organization for himself as he has gotten jobs due to his photography.

“If it goes well, if I can’t find anything else to do then I [would consider it] as a career, but for now I’ve always got this little side job,” Vu said.

To broaden his skills, Vu plans on picking up videography and seeing what else he can do with a camera.

“There are many photographers here [at Wando] but not really many videographers, but there’s one kid at Lucy Beckham… who is really good at videography and I want to be like him,” Vu said.

The idea of videography came from a lacrosse game Vu shot.

“[I videoed a lacrosse game] and it was pretty. It was all right, but sports are hard though so I wanna try and do other stuff like cinematic stuff like prom and hanging out with friends,” Vu said.

Vu’s motivation comes from many different aspects of his life.

“[What motivates me is] different shots, places that I can visit, new people that I can meet,” Vu said.

Although photography might be a possible job option for Vu, there’s another reason he enjoys it so much

“I love [photography because] you get to express yourself with photos and create great memories,” Vu said.
