Smart Girls hits the stage

High school can be a stressful time. Ask any Wando student, and most will tell you they have a lot on their plate. This high stress time period is reflected in the play Smart Girls, which is running Nov. 1 and 2 in the Performing Arts Center.

Brought to you by Wando theater director Lori Carroll, the play details the lives of high school students as they struggle to balance their personal lives while staying on top of school.

The play aims to give an accurate depiction of the high school experience from the eyes of a group of smart girls. Senior Alyssa Stone, who plays Jen, feels that “it’s crucial for adults to see this production to understand the newfound struggles of teenagers in contemporary society.”

After the play there will be an opportunity for parents and students to talk with Wando’s guidance staff about the issues focused on in they play.

The play challenges the stereotypical portrayal of high school as it provides an account of hard-working, academic students that all audiences will relate to. Smart Girls premiers at the Wando High School Performing Arts Center Nov. 1 and shows again on Nov. 2.

The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with the “Radio Suspense Theatre,” an homage to radio’s golden age, directed by Destini Fleming.

Smart Girls will start at 7:30 and Thursday’s performance will start at about 8:15 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and cost $7 for students and $10 for adults.
