Students from around Charleston County gathered at the Gaillard Auditorium on Jan. 16, to showcase a joint performance of Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor.

The performance ensemble consisted of 203 chorus members and 43 instrumentalists from around the district, with 46 singers and four instrumentalists coming from Wando High School. In addition, three soloists from the College of Charleston and one from Charleston Southern University also participated in the performance.

The multi-movement masterwork lasted over an hour, consisting of an 80-page long choral score. In addition, the lyrics to the requiem were sung entirely in Latin, just as Mozart had written them.

The multischool ensemble is set to perform Requiem in D Minor again in February at the South Carolina Music Educators’ Association conference in Columbia.
