Annual Jazz and Percussion Concert Succeeds

Want to listen to professional level music in the comfort of the Wando PAC? Look no further than your own peers.
Wando Percussion and Jazz hosted their annual concert on April 26 in the PAC. The concert featured different aspects of percussion including: marimbas, steel drums, shakers, piano, and even clapping and patting. This was in combination with the two different Jazz ensembles at Wando, the Big Band and the Festival Jazz Band, all directed under Jeff Handel.
Percussion and Jazz alternated performing pieces throughout the two hour event. The atmosphere was energetic and fun – students and director Jeff Handel excited for all the hard work to pay off.
“I am happy with the entire performance. Everyone worked incredibly hard to be musical and entertaining. I could not be more proud,” Handel said.
Many guests performed with the ensembles, including 8th graders from the East Cooper Honors Percussion as well as guest performers Dr. Omar Carmenates, director of Furman University, and Mickey Ratliff, a long term band director.
If you missed it this year, look out for this concert next year. It is sure to be a great night had by all.
